Weekly Review Week 7

This week has been a good one. On thing that I really enjoyed this week was our reading from Gertrude Atherton's The Californians. For some reason, of which I'm not entirely sure yet, I really felt intrigued by this reading. So much so that I downloaded the book to my iPad so that I can read the entire thing when I have the time. Something about the way that Atherton writes struck a chord with me and got me interested in both this story and her writings in general. I really like that this story takes place in San Francisco, and the fact that I know the area very well (although the landscape was a lot different back then) brings me in even more. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of this story and maybe some more of Atherton's work as well.

Other than this reading, I enjoyed, and at the same time kind of hated, my wikipedia trail this week. It brought me very deep in to the rabbit hole of freemasonry filled with a lot of confusion and online conspiracy theories relating the group to the illuminati. As much as I dislike time sucks like these, I am actually kind of looking forward to looking a little more deeply into the history of the freemasons. I enjoyed this class this week and look forward to learning some more new and interesting things next week!

  1. I agree! I enjoyed, and yet was disturbed at the same time by Athertons short story. She gave a lot of insight into a young girls life. I actuallly started my wikipedia trail with Atherton and found out that her sister is also a feministic writer as well.
