Week 15 Reading Notes: Orientation (Orozco), Part X Makeup
This was a very interesting short story that we read this week. It shows a little glimpse into what many Americans see every day; the office life. There are so many people that drive in traffic to their office and do the same thing every day, confined to little more than a cubicle work space. Even the way that this story is written gives a feeling of what it must be like to work in an office, with its boring and list-like description of what goes on in the office. This story shows us many different kinds of characters, likely typical personalities that many people in offices can relate to and say "I know this person". I found John LaFountaine character to be really creepy and I hope that not as many people can relate to this character being in their office. One of my favorite parts was when they are describing the office serial killer so calmly and how he only kills people he doesn't know, and gets his work done quickly so there is no need to worry. This was a funny point because you really don't know the majority of people you work with on a personal level, and for all you know they could be serial killers. To me this story was just making me think of how miserable it must be to go to an office every day and waste away in a cubicle just for steady pay and good benefits. I'm sure some people love working in an office and that is awesome, but I know way too many people that don't, and I feel bad for them. This was a great story that was different than a lot we have seen thus far, and was definitely relatable to anyone living in the Bay Area.
