Introduction to an Undecided, Tattooed, Fun-Loving Husband and Father

Hey everyone!

My name is Anthony DeLuca, I am 23 years old and this is my last semester that I need to get my AA in Math and Science. I am currently an apprentice millwright, which is a trade that erects and maintains machinery. I work full time, which is why I have really enjoyed being able to take online classes here at LMC. I am not sure where I want to try to transfer to after this semester, but I'm sure that it will be somewhere close like CSU East Bay. Since I am working full time and I am really unsure about what I want to end up doing, I have been taking my educational journey pretty slowly.

Other than work, most of my time is spent with my family. I have a lovely wife that I have been married to since December 2016, and an equally amazing little boy, AJ, who will be three in March. I'm sure those of you that have/have had young children know that they keep you extremely busy.

We went on a great trip over Winter break. All of my wife's family, along with my mother went to a really nice cabin in South Lake Tahoe near the Heavenly Ski Resort. We spent Christmas there, bringing a tree and all of our presents and everything to the cabin. The only thing that was kind of a bummer was the amount of snow up there, there was a few inches the first couple of days of our trip, but by Christmas all of it had melted. Other than a lack of snow, it was a much needed, relaxing trip filled with great food and great company.

My wife and I have a few different shows we really enjoy watching together, but two that we recently watched that stick out in my mind are both on Netflix; Stranger Things and Black Mirror. Both of them were absolutely amazing. As far as movies go, my buddies and I go out and see every single Marvel movie the day the they come out, its a fun tradition we have. I also enjoy watching sports like baseball, football, and UFC.

One last thing that I have really gotten into lately is tattoos. I got my first tattoo when I was 18, and then took a pretty long break until this year. I always wanted to get a full arm sleeve, but never had the guts to get it done. Then my wife got some pretty awesome tats a few months ago and I really liked her artist, so I decided to start mine. By next weekend I will have all of the outline done for my whole arm, then I just have to get the entire thing shaded in. I decided to go with a traditional Japanese Style. I have a dragon, who's face is on my shoulder and body wraps down and around my whole arm, an oni mask, and a samurai, who I drew a lot of inspiration from the famous warrior Miyamoto Musashi. He has done such great work on my tattoo thus far and I can't wait until I have the entire thing completed. Tattoos are definitely addicting, and I look forward to getting some more in the future.

Anyways, I think I've rambled on more than enough about myself, and I look forward to hearing some interesting things about the rest of you and learning some cool things about California literature this semester!

  1. Hi Anthony! Welcome to the course! Your Christmas sounds great. My family did that one year, only we got stuck in a blizzard. Either way, it's a beautiful place to spend holidays with your family. Congrats on being so close to transfering1 That's exciting and inspiring. And be sure to show us pics of your arm when it's completed!

  2. Hi Anthony! Congrats on being about to finish this step in your education! I can really understand the winter break thing, I lived up in Reno for a few years, and some times you either get a tiny dusting of snow then it’s gone, or it dumps it so much on you that you’re not going anywhere. Last years snow was crazy, it’s a shame you guys didn’t have any for this year. At least it makes the drive back home a lot safer.
I would of loved to see a picture of your tattoo you’re getting done soon! I want a tattoo, but I’m too indecisive, and my body a bit too weak, so I would probably pass out, so I’m jealous of people who can go to awesome artists and get them done.

  3. Hi Anthony! Congrats on this being your last semester and also on your new sleeve! I think everyone would love a pic of the sleeve! I so love Marvel movies as well! I thought this last Thor movie was epic and hilarious, and can't wait for the next Avengers movie to come out. Great to get to know you!

  4. Hi Anthony! Sounds like you have a full plate with school, work and a toddler! My kids are teenagers, but they still keep me on my toes :-) I have just recently started getting into binge watching shows on Netflix. My kids and I love Stranger Things and couldn't wait for season 2 to come out but were a little bummed since we finished watching it in just a couple of days.
Nice to meet you! I look forward to reading your posts throughout the semester.

  5. Hey Anthony! Thanks for your awesome comment on my blog. I am glad you liked my painting! I debated on posting it since I am still so new to painting. I also wanted to respond to the Martial Arts question. My husband has a black belt in American TaeKwonDo and Okinawan Karate. He is currently working on a 3rd degree for one of them as well (I am unsure which). He also is working on getting a black belt in Krav Maga and has a small amount of Jiu Jitsu experience. We teach a blend of all of the above with a focus on character, discipline, and self defense.
It’s always awesome to hear when people have taken a martial art. Thanks for sharing. I hope you had an awesome experience while you were learning!

  6. Hi Anthony,

Your apprenticeship sounds very interesting, if you choose will you be able to pursue that to a journeyman position? (My husband did that with HVAC) I appreciate that you identify that you’re not sure what to do with your career and education, I was the same way. Pursuing a career and/or education while having a child or children is hard work, good job on keeping focused!

  7. Hi Anthony! That sounds like an awesome place to spend Christmas. My famliy has a cabin up in Big Trees, and we have spent many winters up there in the snow going sledding and skiing. I also watched Stranger Things and loved it! It was so addicting to watch. I have heard a lot about Black Mirror and have wanted to watch that as well, but haven't had the chance to start it yet. Your tattoo sounds awesome, and congratulations on finalizing up your degree at LMC and getting ready to transfer! I wish you much success for the future and this upcoming semester.

  8. Hi Anthony
Nice to meet you. Like yourself, I work full time and also have been taking school a little slower than most. The online classes are perfect for people like you and I as they are somewhat flexible around our schedules. Thanks for sharing the information about the tattoos! I think that is pretty rad and I have been looking into doing some myself. What artist do you go to? Looking forward to more of your posts!

  9. Hey Anthony, it's great to meet you and know that you are in your last semester. This is my second semester and I've at least one more year before I decide to transfer. I love hearing about your vacation. Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places I have seen and the fact that you spend your christmas over there with your family is awesome. Lake tahoe and having a week off at Monterey bay would be my two preferable dream vacations. Me and my brother have also just recently started this marvel tradition in which we are watching past marvel films such as the original spiderman movies 1-3, the x men movies, iron man 1, thor ragnorok , avengers 1-2 and the new marvel film which is Black Panther. We are pretty much doing a marvel marathon fest in leading up to marvel's infinity war.
